Consortium Program

We are seeking partners to bring about a generational transformation in society’s production and use of chemicals and materials. Together we will embed the principles of green chemistry into education, research, markets, and public policy. This work will provide the foundation for safeguarding human health and ecosystems well into the future and it will provide a cornerstone for a sustainable, clean energy economy. As a member of our consortium you will be supporting the development of expanded research and educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students interested in Green Chemistry at UC Berkeley. In return, consortium members will develop a clear line-of-sight and help advise new developments in green chemistry at UC Berkeley.

ØGraduate fellowships for interdisciplinary scholarship. Fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis and will support graduate student for one semester so in order to develop a new research area.

ØSummer internships. Both on and off campus internship opportunities will be offered to undergraduate and graduate students interested in green chemistry. The results of these projects will be showcased in a student poster session during the fall consortium meeting.

ØDevelopment of a new Greener Solutions Program, which partners student teams with consortium members to explore ways to make greener materials choices, help evaluate emerging market drivers, or scope new technologies.

As a way to follow the progress of our program and to actively solicit your input the BCGC will provide consortium members with the following:

  • Twice yearly, BCGC will provide project abstracts that outline the research and education projects being conducted with consortium funding.
  • Access to Consortium Project reports and draft publications for gaining early knowledge of new developments prior to their wide dissemination.
  • The opportunity to propose research topics to be conducted by BCGC.
  •  Attendance at bi-annual research review meetings held at California’s Berkeley campus to review recent research results and student poster sessions.
  • The opportunity to sponsor dedicated research projects with BCGC Faculty Members.
  • The opportunity to jointly submit or participate in proposals to programs wherein university-industry, university-government, university-community, and/or university-NGO partnerships are encouraged.
  • The opportunity to meet and discuss green chemistry with other Consortium Participants, BCGC faculty, researchers, students and postdoctoral scientists at BCGC meetings.
  •  A line-of-sight to campus research and perspective future employees.
