Greener Solutions Fall 2014

  • News and Highlights:

Greener Solutions is a course offered at UC Berkeley. This 3-unit course is developed and taught by the Berkeley Center for Green Chemistry in conjunction with the Biomimicry Institute, and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, Safer Consumer Products branch.

In Greener Solutions, students will:

  • Work in multi-disciplinary teams to tackle a research question posed by a host organization aiming to adopt safer chemicals in products or operations;
  • Investigate the human and environmental health consequences of a current technology; and
  • Look to biologically inspired designs to find what else is possible. This practice is known as biomimicry.

We are also developing a 2-unit seminar continuation for Spring semester, 2015 - Greener Solutions Translation. Students who participate in the fall course can opt to continue in Greener Solutions Translation, a seminar in which students will translate the teams' findings for a variety of audiences, polishing communication skills, and investigating subsequent research and development steps.
